About GenBuy

Good Gear Should Make Life Easier.

I’m Michael Turner. I created GenBuy because choosing a backpack, suitcase or everyday bag shouldn’t mean digging through endless product pages and marketing claims just to figure out what actually makes sense for the way you live.

Why I started GenBuy

I’ve always been picky about the bags I carry.

A bag looks simple until you actually have to live with it. Then the little things start to matter: a shoulder strap that digs in after an hour, a suitcase wheel that hates rough pavement, a laptop compartment that is almost the right size, or a zipper that suddenly feels cheap after a few months.

Over the past decade, I’ve spent a lot of time with backpacks, briefcases, duffels, luggage and travel accessories. Some came along on trips, some became part of everyday routines, and plenty taught me what I would look for differently the next time.

GenBuy grew out of that experience. I wanted one place where I could turn what I’ve learned into practical guides for people trying to choose gear for work, the gym, daily life or their next trip.

I’m less interested in what looks impressive in a product photo than in what still feels like a good choice once you’ve actually lived with it.
What matters to me

The details that make a bag worth carrying.

Style matters, but it is only part of the story. The gear I pay attention to has to make sense once it leaves the shelf and becomes part of an actual commute, workout or trip.

01

Comfort

Handles, straps, weight distribution and how the bag feels after you have been carrying it for more than five minutes.

02

Organization

Useful compartments and sensible access matter more than adding pockets simply to make a specification list longer.

03

Durability

Materials, stitching, zippers, handles, wheels and the places where everyday wear usually shows up first.

04

Value

The most expensive option is not automatically the right one. I care about what you actually get for your money.

How I approach the guides

Practical first. Hype last.

Different articles require different kinds of research, but the goal stays the same: make the answer easier to understand and more useful when you actually have to make a decision.

1

Start With the Use Case

A good work briefcase and a good weekend duffel solve very different problems. The situation comes first.

2

Look at the Details

Size, materials, layout, hardware, weight and the small design choices that affect everyday use.

3

Compare the Trade-Offs

More capacity can mean more weight. More structure can mean less flexibility. There is rarely one perfect bag for everybody.

4

Keep It Useful

Guides are written to answer the questions that matter before you buy, pack or head out the door.

Beyond the product page

Bags make the most sense when they’re actually going somewhere.

Travel is a big part of why I became interested in gear in the first place. Airports, road trips, hotel rooms and long days moving between places have a way of exposing every awkward design choice very quickly.

That is also why GenBuy covers more than buying guides. I write about packing, luggage rules, everyday carry questions and the practical problems that come with taking your stuff from one place to another.
